Summary of Fringe Benefits for Teaching Professionals with Academic Year Obligation
Note: Much of this information is a summary of data provided in the current collective bargaining agreement. In case of any misinterpretation, the agreement will prevail.
Leaves of Absence
- Sick Leave
- 1¾ days per month accrued; maximum accumulation 225 days. Applicable when illness of employee or immediate family (defined as grandparent, parent, sibling, spouse, child or grandchild, mother-In-law, father-in-law, or an individual who serves In the same relationship) prevents employee from performing duties inclusive of overload teaching.
- Sick Leave Donation Program
- Available for members who have exhausted their sick leave per Article 11.2.B.
- Bereavement Leave
- Not to exceed 4 days for death of immediate family member; not to exceed 2 days for brother-in-law or sister-in-law.
- Personal Leave
- One day per year chargeable against accumulated sick leave for urgent personal business. Unused personal leave shall accumulate to a maximum of two (2) days of personal leave per year.
- Jury Duty
- Time off with full pay.

Provided to a limited number of retirees each year based on rank or grade, years of service and seniority.- Before 2009
- Benefit of $36,000 payable to an approved 403B retirement account.

- Conversion of unused sick time to health insurance. Maximum benefit of $36,000.

- Tuition Waivers
- At Other SUNY Institutions:
- Various amounts in accordance with SUNY policies.
- At Mohawk Valley Community College:
- Employees, dependents, spouses, and individuals serving in the same relationship as an employee’s spouse are entitled to waivers as defined in Article 2.6.
- At Other SUNY Institutions:
- MVCC Professional Association Benefits Trust Fund
- Administered by Fund Trustees appointed by the Association. All unit employees are eligible for benefits after 6 months of employment. Plans are provided through two NYSUT-endorsed companies, Davis Vision and UnumProvident. Five benefits are provided:
- family vision plan
- life insurance
- accidental death and dismemberment coverage
- long-term disability insurance
- travel assistance plan.
Direct Deposit
- Administered by Fund Trustees appointed by the Association. All unit employees are eligible for benefits after 6 months of employment. Plans are provided through two NYSUT-endorsed companies, Davis Vision and UnumProvident. Five benefits are provided:
- Employees have the option of payroll checks being deposited directly into their accounts. Pay stubs are mailed to the home address as confirmation of deposit.
